Mitchell Donathan

November 19, 1929 — December 18, 2017

Mr. Mitchell Allen Donathan, 88, passed away on Monday, December 18, 2017 in Owingsville, Kentucky.

Mitchell, formerly of Lexington, was a resident of Ridgeway Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility in Owingsville.

One of twelve children, he was born in Menifee County, Kentucky on November 19, 1929, to the late Joe Allen and Rebecca Lou Thompson Donathan.

After moving to Lexington, Mitchell began his career in dry cleaning; working at Lexington Laundry, Romany Road Dry Cleaners, then ending his career as Manager of Big B Dry Cleaners in Turfland Mall.

He attended the Owingsville First Church of God; and was a member of the choir until his health no longer allowed.  Being a member of the Owingsville First Church of God Choir was one of his greatest joys.  A gifted musician and singer, he and sister, Margie Zegelien, were a popular Gospel Duo in the Menifee, Bath and surrounding counties during the 40’s and 50’s.

Survivors include special brother and caregiver, Randall Donathan and niece, Rebecca Renee’ Donathan, sisters, Margie Zegelien and Bertha Patrick, brother, Bobby Donathan and a host of nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the Staff of Ridgeway for their years of outstanding, compassionate care.  While at Ridgeway, Mitchell served as President of the Resident’s Council and the Men’s Club.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, December 21, 2017 in the chapel of the Michael R. Gray Funeral Home in Owingsville with Rev. Lowell Rice officiating.

Burial will follow in the Owingsville Cemetery.

Visitation is after 12:00 Noon Thursday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be James Holt, Les Vogt, Fred Zegelien, Dan Zegelien, Dale Toy and Benton Conley.

Honorary pallbearers will be the staff and residents of Ridgeway Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility.

The family extends their gratitude and appreciation to the doctors, nurses and staff at the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center and St. Claire Hospice.
