Alex Wayne Junior Sumpter

Alex Wayne Junior Sumpter, 57, of Bethel, Kentucky passed away Monday, May 29, 2023 at his home after an extended illness.

He was born in Georgetown, Kentucky on November 2nd, 1965 to his parents Diana Hopkins Sumpter and the late Alex Junior Sumpter, he grew up valuing the importance of family and community.

Alex found his passion in life working at Longview Cemetery as a Grave Digger for many years, providing care and comfort to families during their difficult times. He took pride in his work and was dedicated to ensuring that each person had a proper resting place.

His proudest accomplishment was serving as a volunteer firefighter with the Bethel Volunteer Fire Department. Alex had a deep commitment to helping others and this was reflected in the countless hours he spent serving his community.

Alex had a love for the outdoors which manifested itself through his hobbies of fishing and camping. He also enjoyed playing video games with his grandchildren and spending time with his loving family.

In addition to his father he was preceded in death by his wife Nancy Carol Sumpter.

Survivors include his mother Diana Hopkins Sumpter; companion Tina Wiggins; son Jared McKinney; daughters Toni (Jesus) Vazquez and Rachelle Nelson; sisters Laura Jean (Doug) Schimpter and Jessica Sumpter; as well as numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends.

The funeral service will be held on June 2, 2023 in the chapel of the Michael R Gray Funeral Home located at 89 Slate Ave in Owingsville, Kentucky with Ray Robertson officiating. 

Visitation will be held from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm with the funeral service immediately following at 1:00 pm.

Alex Wayne Junior Sumpter touched the lives of so many during his time with us on this earth. His warm heart and joyful spirit will be deeply missed but his legacy of kindness and love will continue to live on.
