Billy Burton Johnson passed away peacefully on June 5, 2024 at Saint Joseph Main Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky. Billy was the son of the late Welburn and Margaret Johnson of Owingsville, Kentucky. He was born in Bethel, Kentucky on January 29, 1951 and was baptized as a Christian at a young age.
He retired from Sara Lee, but his main occupation was farming. He was a farmer through and through and could be found on his family farm at any time. Billy was also an avid sports fan and was a skilled athlete in his own right. He proudly ran track and played basketball as a Bath County Wildcat. He could also later be found coaching youth sports in Bath County. One of his greatest joys was being a papaw – he enjoyed every minute of loving and spoiling his granddaughters.
In addition to his parents, Billy was preceded in death by a son, Wesley Burton Johnson and a sister, Judy Wright.
He is survived by his loving wife of over 54 years, Mary Karen Hogge Johnson of Owingsville, his son Barry Johnson of Owingsville, his daughter MinDee Hudson Chandler (Anthony) of Mt. Sterling and his beloved granddaughters Macy (Darrin) and her boys Jack and Owen of Bowling Green, Ava and Gracyn Hudson of Mt. Sterling. He is also survived by his brother Lonnie Johnson (Beverley) of Lexington and his sister Nell Manley (Donnie) of Sharpsburg. He is also survived by special friends and neighbors J. R. and Nancye Fields as well as a host of nieces and nephews. Billy will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
A visitation for Billy will be held from 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM Sunday, June 9, 2024 in the chapel of the Michael R. Gray Funeral Home in Owingsville followed by a memorial service at 3:00 PM.
A private burial will take place on Monday, June 10, 2024 at the Owingsville Cemetery.
