Charles Ray Downey, 83, of Blevins Valley, Kentucky was called to his eternal home on Monday, July 17, 2023.
He was born in Bath County, Kentucky on October 9, 1939 to the late Roy Downey and Ethel Sorrell Downey.
Charles was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and retired from Seal Master after 15 years of service. He was a lifelong farmer who enjoyed beekeeping, bird watching (especially purple martins), gardening, fishing and hunting. Charles also enjoyed crocheting little hats for PICU babies and completed over 500 that have been delivered to numerous PICU units across the region.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his five brothers, Taylor, Clyde, Richard, Virgil and John Downey, one sister, Ruby Downey and his mother and father in law, Robert and Hazel Copher.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Cathy Copher Downey, three daughters, Kim Crouch of Preston, Kentucky, Sandy Paige (Adam) of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky and Valerie Ward (Mark) of Blevins Valley, Kentucky, four grandchildren, Ayden Crouch, Haleigh and Jordan Paige and Logan Ward, five sisters, Christine Letcher and Faye Stone of Owingsville, Alice Norris, Gracie Rogers and Margie Fields of Mt. Sterling along with several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 PM Friday, July 21, 2023 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Owingsville with Bishop John Nelson officiating.
Burial will follow at the Owingsville Cemetery.
Visitation at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints will be from 6:00 - 8:00 PM Thursday, July 20, 2023.
Honorary pallbearers include, Haleigh Paige, Ayden Crouch, Jordan Paige, Logan Ward and Matthew Meadows.
