Cheryl Eve Helton Fields, 73, of Owingsville, Kentucky passed away on Sunday, April 26, 2026. She was born on August 21, 1952, in Marion, Indiana, to the late Edward Millard Purvis and Millie Francis Purvis. Cheryl lived a life marked by dedication to her family, entrepreneurial spirit, and a genuine warmth that touched everyone she met.
She owned and operated Helton's Upholstery for many years. Later, she became the owner of the Polksville Country Mart, where she continued to serve her community with the same passion and diligence.
Known for her engaging personality, Cheryl truly enjoyed interacting with people. Her home was a reflection of her vibrant spirit, always beautifully decorated and inviting. She took great joy in tending her roses, a hobby that brought her peace and satisfaction. Cheryl’s love of animals was well known, as was her talent as a great cook who delighted family and friends with her cooking skills.
Cheryl is survived by her daughter, Tina Helton Lucas (Donnie) of Owingsville. She also leaves behind three brothers: Eddie Purvis (Cindy) of Owingsville; Chris Miller (Kimberly) and Thorp Miller (Gina), both of Indianapolis, Indiana. Her three sisters, Laura Maze of Owingsville, Mary Diane Miller (Jason) of Indianapolis, and Sarah Vogel (Roger) of Converse, Indiana, her sister-in-law, Mary Purvis of Owingsville. Grandchildren, Allen Lucas (Alisha), Eddie Lucas (Samantha), and Amber Netherly (Michael Kennon), all of Owingsville, as well as nine great-grandchildren. Nieces and nephews include Jason Purvis of Owingsville; Adam Jarrod “Peanut” Purvis of Mt. Sterling; Kerri Sparks (Clifton) of Salt Lick; Kimberly Ray Draper (Jeff) of Lexington; Jared Purvis (Amanda) of Owingsville; Karina Brashear (Blaine) of Elizabethtown, Kentucky; Zachary Purvis (Ashley) of Waco, Kentucky; Monica Handy (Corey) of Shady Spring, West Virginia; Jacob Purvis (Madeline); Whitley Brooke Purvis; Scotty Hatton (Jessica); Alicia Martin (Clint); Amanda Maze; and Russell Hiler—all of Owingsville. She is also remembered fondly by several great-great nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Cheryl was preceded in death by her first husband, Eddie Helton, and her second husband, William “Billy” Fields, her step-mother, Alberta Ruth Purvis; brothers Gary Purvis, Kenneth "Kenny" Purvis, and Johnny Miller; and one sister, Lisa Hiler.
A visitation will be held on Friday, May 1, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Michael R Gray Funeral Home in Owingsville.
The funeral service will follow at the same location on Saturday, May 2, 2026, beginning at 1:00 PM. Burial will then take place at Hedricks Cemetery in Salt Lick.
Pallbearers include Jason Purvis, Travis Spence, Earl Willis, Jared Purvis, Zachary Purvis and Blaine Brashear.
Serving as an honorary pallbearer is Adam "Peanut" Purvis.
