Daniel Keith Zegelien, 64, of Morehead, Kentucky, affectionately known as "Danny," passed away on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at the UK St. Claire Hospital. He was born on September 8, 1961, in Mt. Sterling, the son of Marjorie Donathan Zegelien and the late Donald Zegelien.
Danny was a man of many interests. He had a particular passion for cars, especially anything Dodge, often proclaiming, "A car isn't a car unless it's a Dodge." He relished the opportunity to grill out and enjoyed music, which added to the joy he brought to gatherings with family and friends. His creativity and craftsmanship were also evident in his hobby of building model cars.
Danny proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Army. His love for his family ran deep, and he cherished the moments spent together. He is survived by his mother, Marjorie Donathan Zegelien, his wife, Rhonda Stepp Zegelien, two daughters Alicia and Brittany Zegelien of Winchester, and son Daniel Zegelien of Morehead. Additionally, he leaves behind two stepsons, Derrik Ross of Morehead and Steven Ross of Owingsville, as well as step-grandchildren Nicholas, Benjamin, Ellie, and Loralai Ross, his brother, Fred Zegelien of Winchester, his sister, Donna Lucas (Larry) of Morehead, and his former partner and mother to his children, Michelle Crouch. He is further survived by his sister-in-law, Francie Melvin, and several nieces and nephews, including Holly Lucas, Bill Lucas (Heather), Landon Young, Luna Lucas, and Phoenix Trimble, great nieces and nephews, Kole and Alix Childers and Kayla Perkins. He also leaves behind his best friend, Gary Ballard.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Joyce Cantrell.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, at the Michael R. Gray Funeral Home located at 89 Slate Ave, Owingsville, KY.
Funeral Services will follow at 1:00 PM, with Rev. Lowell Rice officiating. Burial will follow at Owingsville Cemetery with full military rites performed by American Legion Post 22.
