David Ray Barger

David Ray Barger, 74, of Owingsville, Kentucky passed away Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at his home. He was born in Hazard, Kentucky on December 20, 1951, to the late Floyd Barger and Juanita Carpenter Barger.

David was truly a jack of all trades. He was skilled in carpentry, plumbing, and many other trades throughout the years, always willing to lend his talents and work with his hands. In his free time, he enjoyed studying his Bible, taking care of his yard, and spending time with his sweet cat, Gypsy, who held a special place in his heart. David was also a proud member of the Preston First Church of God.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Revanna Barger, who passed away at a young age.

Survivors include his wife, Athonia Ingram Barger, her children, Travis Fields (Crystal) and Sonja McCarty (Randy) both of Owingsville, three brothers, Tom Barger (Johnita) of Frankfort, Kentucky, Jerry Barger of Lexington, Kentucky and Henry Barger (Rosie) of Montpelier, Indiana and one sister, Charlene Barger of Owingsville.  Survivors also include his four grandchildren, Hunter McCarty (Jordan), Zane McCarty, Alex Fields (Summer) and Zachary Fields. 

Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 PM Tuesday, September 8, 2026 in the chapel of the Michael R. Gray Funeral Home in Owingsville with Paster Ulysses Walton officiating. 

Burial will follow at the Owingsville Cemetery. 

Visitation at the Michael R. Gray Funeral Home in Owingsville is from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM Tuesday. 

Pallbearers will include Earl Willis, Travis Spence, Mark Roland, Danny Fox, Phillip Wells, Chris Martin and Tim Highley. 

Honorary pallbearers will include his grandsons. 

The Michael R. Gray Funeral Home in Owingsville is caring for all the arrangements for David Ray Barger.
