Dorothy Shields

October 12, 1927 — March 17, 2016

Mrs. Dorothy “Dottie” Stephens Shields, age 88 of Owingsville passed away Thursday, March 17, 2016 at the St. Claire Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.  She was born in Montgomery County on October 12, 1927 to the late Roy and Clemmie Warders Stephens.

Mrs. Shields was a 1946 graduate of Owingsville High School. She was a longtime member of the Owingsville First Christian Church where she was a Deacon and taught Sunday School for many years. Mrs. Shields enjoyed reading and needlework and was a babysitter and child care provider for many children in the area.

Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Billy G. Shields on July 7, 2007. Her brother George Stephens and sister Alma Warner.

Survivors include her son, Roy G. Shields and wife Deborah of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, daughter, Connie Hervey and her husband Tom of Alexandria, Kentucky.  Three  grandchildren Melissa (Walker) Thomas, Travis (Amanda) Hervey and Nicholas (Laura) Hervey. Six great-grandchildren: Riley Thomas, Chase Thomas, Ada Grace Hervey, Elijah Hervey, Jace Hervey and Aubriana Hervey. Also, several nieces, nephews, other relatives and the many children she loved and cared for throughout the years.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:30 A.M. Monday, March 21, 2016 at the Owingsville First Christian Church with Rev. Rusty Hedrick and Rev. Sean Bailey officiating.

Burial will follow in the Shields Cemetery.

Visitation at the Michael R. Gray Funeral Home in Owingsville is from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.  on Sunday, March 20, 2016.

The body will lie in state one hour prior to services Monday at the church.

Serving as pall bearers will be Jamie Shields, Gene Shields, Danny Shields, John Lee Hedrick, Joe W. Toy, Larry Maggard, Richard Stephens and Rogie Coyle.

Contributions are suggested to the Owingsville First Christian Church.
