Ella Goodpaster

February 27, 1925 — February 26, 2016

M rs. Ella D. Goodpaster, 91 a lifelong resident of Owingsville, passed away Friday evening February 26, 2016 at the St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington after a brief illness. She was born February 27, 1925 in Owingsville to the late Daniel and Elizabeth Salyer Doggett.

Mrs. Goodpaster was a graduate of Ward Belmont College in Nashville, Tennessee and a 1947 graduate of the University of Kentucky. She was a retired teacher having taught at Bethel High School and taught, English , History and Kentucky History at Bath County High School.

She was a member of the Owingsville First Christian Church where she was very active and had served as the church organist. She enjoyed listening to music, playing the piano and had also taught piano for many years.

Ella was very active in the community as a member of the Women's Club, Kiwanis Club, Relay for Life and assisted her husband with the entertainment for the annual May Day Pageant.

She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and was very interested in politics and would keep up with current events  by watching MSNBC.

Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Sherman Goodpaster, Jr. and her brother Daniel Doggett, Jr.

Survivors include two sons, Sherman Goodpaster, III and his wife Deborah of Lexington and Dan W. Goodpaster and his wife Garnet of Wellington. Five grandchildren, Daniel (Selena)  Goodpaster, Jennifer Goodpaster, Shannon Goodpaster and her husband Steven Guerrera, Scott Goodpaster and Renee (Chris) Riddle. Four great-grandchildren, William Guerrera, Bauer Anthony Block, Alexendra Riddle and Aaron Riddle. Two nieces, Marcelle Doggett and Celeste Ward. Also, many other relatives and special friends.

Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at the Owingsville First Christian Church with Bro. John Baber and Rev. Sean Bailey Officiating.

Burial will follow in the Owingsville Cemetery.

Visitation at the Michael R. Gray Funeral Home in Owingsville is after 5:00 P.M. Tuesday, March 1, 2016.

The body will lie in state one hour prior to services Wednesday at the church.

Serving as pall bearers will be Steven Guerrera, Scott Goodpaster, Daniel Goodpaster, John Lee Hedrick, Chris Riddle and Clay Vanlandingham.

Contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society or the Owingsville First Christian Church.

The Michael R. Gray Funeral Home in Owingsville is caring for all arrangements for Mrs. Ella D. Goodpaster.
