Irene Thomas Hunt

March 5, 1932 — February 24, 2024

Salt Lick

Irene Thomas Hunt was reunited with the love of her life on February 24, 2024. Her beloved husband, Allie E. Hunt died in 2016, and she missed him dearly.

She was born on March 5, 1932, in Menifee County. She was the youngest of four children born to Alvia and Pearl Hale Thomas.

Irene lived a long, happy life and died peacefully after a long illness. She is survived by her four children; Steven (Joy) Hunt, of Owingsville, Debra (James) Cochran of Salt Lick, Jeffery Hunt of Owingsville, and Jeni Carpenter of Owingsville. She was the beloved grandmother of five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Irene was a candy maker and was best known for her cream candy, which was often described as “the world’s best”. She also enjoyed crocheting, and hand-quilted many quilts over the years. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother who loved spending time with her family and prepared Sunday dinners for years for a whole houseful of family members. But above all else, Irene was a Christian who was devoted to God and to her church.

Irene was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, one brother, Lester Thomas, two sisters, Loretta Thomas and Juanita Cox, her daughter-in-law, Judy Green Hunt, and son-in-law, Walter “Bud” Carpenter, Jr.

Irene had a servant’s heart and lived by 1 Peter 4:10: “Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others faithfully, administering God’s grace in its various forms.”
