James Webb Johnson

Owingsville

James Webb Johnson, 74 of Owingsville, Kentucky passed away Thursday, October 5, 2023 at St. Claire HealthCare in Morehead after a brief illness.

He was born in Chillicothe, Missouri on September 22, 1949 to the late Leo Johnson, Jr. and Norma Lynn Barnhart Johnson.

Mr. Johnson was a true American Patriot having served in the United States Army, United States Marine Corps and the United States Navy. He served all over the world including time during the Vietnam Era. He retired from the military with many medals and commendations for his service to our country.

He owned and operated J. and J. Sporting Goods and attended Grace Gospel Tabernacle.

Mr. Johnson enjoyed fishing, hunting, taking care of his animals and was always proud to tell about his time served in the military.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three step-grandchildren; Matthew Crouch, Dustin Price and Elizabeth Emily Grace Price.

Survivors include his wife of twenty-two years, Virgaleen Purvis Johnson., his step-son, Joe "Buck" Price, Jr. and his wife Kim, two stepdaughters, Marie Price and Nancy Price Crouch all of Owingsville.

Two sisters, Carla Suddeth of Byron, Georgia and Mary Lee Fitzpatrick of Plattsburg, Missouri. One brother, Jeff Johnson of Missouri, Three step-grandchildren, Bryson Price, Hayden Price, Sarah Price and Olivia Crouch.

Also, several other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 pm Tuesday, October 10, 2023 in the chapel of the Michael R. Gray Funeral Home in Owingsville with Pastor Steve Meadows officiating.

Burial will follow in the Longview Cemetery at Bethel.

Full military rites will be conducted at the graveside by Mt. Sterling American Legion Post No. 22.

Visitation the the Michael R. Gray Funeral Home in Owingsville is after 6:00 pm Monday.

Pall bearers will be family and friends.

The Michael R. Gray Funeral Home, 89 Slate Avenue,  Owingsville, Kentucky 40360 is caring for all arrangements for James Webb Johnson.
