John Preston Baber, 95, of Owingsville, Kentucky passed away Monday, August 16, 2021 at St. Joseph Hospital in Mt. Sterling, Kentucky.
He was born March 24, 1926 in Smithville, Missouri to the late Preston Baber and Minola McMillan Baber.
John was a United States Navy veteran having served during World War II. He was a member of the Owingsville First United Methodist Church where he was a Trustee and a member of the United Methodist Men. He was also a member of Gideons International. He was a Little League Coach and had coached baseball for various age groups. He was an assistant Scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts and enjoyed camping and birdwatching. He also enjoyed music and he and his wife sang for many church services and funerals in the area.
John was retired from Texas Eastern Transmission Corporation and was a well known painter in the area
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years Lorena "Rena" Baber who passed away July 15, 2021. Two brothers, Jim Baber and Donald Baber.
Survivors include his two sons: Johnny Baber (Debbie) of Owingsville, Kentucky and Brad Baber of Columbia City, Indiana, two daughters: Tina Bush of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky and Pam Little (Jim) of Loganville, Georgia. Two brothers, Floyd Ray Baber of Platte City, Missouri and Victor Baber of Smithville, Missouri. Eleven grandchildren: Jared Baber (Cheyenne), Brock Baber (Jill), Evan Carino (Eli), Josh Little, Suzanne Little, Zach Baber (Brynn), Tyler Baber, Caleb Baber (Amanda), Lauren Snider (Jeff), Solomon Bush (Jennifer) and Aaron Bush, eight great grandchildren: Avery Baber, Adelle Baber, Andi Baber, Bryton Carino, Brynn Carino, Eli Baber, Jack Snider and Lily Snider.
Funeral Services will be conducted 1:00 pm Friday, August 20, 2021 at the Owingsville First United Methodist Church with Rev. John Baber, Rev. Lowell Rice and Rev. Mike Ray officiating.
Burial will follow in the Owingsville Cemetery.
Full military rites will be conducted at the graveside by American Legion Post. No. 22
Visitation at the Owingsville First United Methodist Church will be from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm Thursday evening.
Pall bearers will be Mike Cassidy, Jeff Ray, Danny Staton, Tom Woods, John Perkins, Marley Clark, Bill Hornback, Jim Little and Keith Taylor.
