Leslie Christy, Jr.

December 11, 1931 — June 9, 2016

Leslie Christy, Jr., 84 of Owingsville, passed away Thursday, June 9, 2016 at his home after an illness of several weeks. He was born in Salt Lick, Kentucky on December 11, 1931 to the late Leslie and Edna Fowler Christy.

Mr. Christy was a retired educator having served as principal of Owingsville Elementary School for nearly 30 years. He was a graduate of Salt Lick High School and Morehead State University. He served in the United States Air Force and was a member of the Owingsville First Church of God. Mr. Christy was a member of the Bath Lodge No. 55 where he was a past master and former District Deputy Grandmaster. He served on the Owingsville City Council from 1963 to 1983 and from 1994 to 1998. He was a member of the Owingsville Lions Club, Kiwanis Club,  Dairy Queen Breakfast Club and enjoyed woodworking, picture framing, camping, fishing, gardening, Kentucky Basketball and spending time with his family.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his daughters, Paula Jean Christy and Myra Gayle McGonigle, two brothers, John Christy and Ronnie Christy.

Survivors include his wife of nearly 64 years, Marcella Craig Christy. One daughter, Karen Christy James and her husband David of Owingsville. One son, Paul Christy and his wife Sondra of Winchester, son-in-law, Mike McGonigle of Owingsville. Three brothers, Charles Christy and his wife Frankie of Plentywood, Montana, Donnie Christy and his wife Sharon of Maysville, Kentucky and Mike Neff and his wife Sheri of  Salt Lick, Kentucky. Three sisters, Kay Conn and her husband Tom of Salt Lick, Tilly Crouch and her husband Don of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky and Dianna Deschenes and her husband Carl of Salt Lick, Kentucky. Eight grandchildren, Christy (Michael) Creech, Craig (Emily) McGonigle, Chace (Katie) McGonigle, Aaron (Brittany) Christy, Zack Christy, Tanner Whitton, RaeAnna Whitaker and Heather James Cecil. Six Great Grandchildren, Cailyn, Cameryn, Conner, Bryson, Colin and Jenna. A special friend and caregiver, Vedna Jackson of Owingsville. Also, several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 P.M. Saturday, June 11, 2016 at the Owingsville First Church of God with Rev. Lowell Rice and Rev. Anthony Anderson officiating.

Burial with full military honors by the Corbie Ellington American Legion Post No. 126 will be in the Craig Cemetery at Salt Lick.

Visitation at the Michael R. Gray Funeral Home in Owingsville will be after 5:00 pm Friday, June 10, 2016. Masonic Rites by the Bath Lodge No. 55 will be at 8:00 pm Friday at the funeral home.

Serving as pall bearers will be Craig McGonigle, Chace McGonigle, Aaron Christy, Zack Christy, Tanner Whitton, Mike Creech and Mike McGonigle.

Honorary pall bearers will be members of the Dairy Queen Breakfast Club, Randall Tackett, Betty Bailey and John and Edith Bradley.

Contributions are suggested to the Owingsville First Church of God or St. Claire Hospice.
