Mary Sue Snedegar

Mary Sue Snedegar, 84, of Owingsville, Kentucky, passed away at her home surrounded by her beloved family, on Thursday, August 6, 2026.

She was born on March 8, 1942, in Salt Lick, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Claude and Dorothy Goldy.

Mary Sue was a lifelong educator who dedicated her life to teaching and serving others. She graduated from Owingsville High School in 1960 before attending Morehead State University, where she earned her degree in Education. She began her teaching career in Ohio, where she taught for one year before returning home to Kentucky. She then spent the next 27 years teaching typing, shorthand, accounting and English at Menifee County High School, where she positively impacted generations of students. She also served as the senior class sponsor for many years. Even after retiring in 1995, Mary Sue’s passion for education never ended. She lovingly continued teaching and tutoring her grandchildren for decades, leaving them with not only knowledge but also cherished memories.

A devoted woman of faith, Mary Sue faithfully served as a trustee and deaconess at Owingsville Christian Church. She was a member of the Kentucky Retired Teachers Association, the Morehead State University Alumni Association, and the Slate Valley Homemakers. She found joy in baking, reading, tending to her flower garden, and, above all, spending time with her family and friends. Her work ethic and servant’s heart touched everyone who knew her.

In addition to her parents, Mary Sue was preceded in death by her sister, Effie Mae Martin.

She is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, E.H. Snedegar; her sister, Juanita Fay Goldy of Owingsville; her children, Claudette (Steve) Faudere of Owingsville, Robert Earl (Angie) Snedegar of Owingsville, and Dawn Marie Snedegar of Winchester, Kentucky; and her stepchildren, Taylor Snedegar of Lexington, Kentucky, and Mary Susan (Jr.) Hawkins of Owingsville.

She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Suzanne (Garrett) Howard of Salt Lick, Kentucky, Cameron Faudere of Lexington, Kentucky, Brooke (Ty) Stewart of Salt Lick, Kentucky, Paige (Devin) Buckner of Lexington, Kentucky, and Makenzie Snedegar and Drew Snedegar, both of Owingsville.

Mary Sue was also blessed with four treasured great-grandchildren: Ellie Howard, Sutton Stewart, Scottie Buckner, and Shepherd Buckner, who brought her immeasurable joy.

A visitation at the Michael R. Gray Funeral Home in Owingsville will take place from 5:00 - 8:00 PM on Monday, August 10, 2026.

Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 PM Tuesday, August 11, 2026, in the chapel of the Michael R. Gray Funeral Home in Owingsville with Pastors Johnny Baber and Greg Whitt officiating. 

Burial will follow at the Owingsville Cemetery. 

Serving as pallbearers will be Robert Earl Snedegar, Steve Faudere, Jr. Hawkins, Ty Stewart, Garrett Howard, and Devin Buckner.

Honorary pallbearers will be Cameron Faudere, Drew Snedegar, Taylor Snedegar, Roger “Rogie” Coyle, and Stewart Thomas Snedegar.

Mary Sue will be remembered for her steadfast faith, her love of learning, her devotion to her family and the countless lives she influenced both inside and outside the classroom. Her legacy of kindness, wisdom and unconditional love will continue to live on through all who had the privilege of knowing her.
