Merle was a Bath County native. She was a member of the Salt Lick First Church of God.
Merle is survived by three daughters, Shelia Hicks of Morehead, Vanita Mabry and Steve Hall of Morehead and Rhonda Cassidy of Morehead; nine grandchildren; three great grandchildren; one sister, Lena K. McNabb of Salt Lick. Merle is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Merle was preceded in death by her parents, Leslie Blevins and Winnie Highley.
