Owen Goodpaster, 91 of Owingsville Kentucky passed away at his residence after a long illness on April 29, 2024.

Owen was born in Peasticks, Ky on March 17, 1933, to the late Epsie and Lucy Purvis Goodpaster. 

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his stepmother Julie Goodpaster, 5 brothers and 1 sister.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Nellie Hatton Goodpaster. Two daughters, Patty (Eddie) McIlvain, Joyce (Gordie) Wells. Two sons, Bryan (Diana) Goodpaster, and Jamie (Brandy) Goodpaster.  5 grandchildren, Blanche (Steve)Purvis, Rachel Holbrook, Gordie Wells, Jr., Rhett Goodpaster, Royce Goodpaster, Adam Crockett (Shania), Railey Pile, and Roby Pile. 8 great grandchildren: LaPaula Purvis, Amy Jo Purvis, Briley Richards, Rayden Holbrook, John, Kaden, Easton, and Braxton Crockett.  Owen is also survived by 3 sisters-in-laws and many nieces and nephews.

Owen served his country as an Army Corporal in the Korean War from 1953-1955 and as an Army Reservist from 1956-1960. He went on to work for A.O. Smith Manufacturing as a steel slitter for 33 years until his retirement in 1998.

He was an avid knife trader, squirrel, and rabbit hunter in his younger years. He loved a good flea market, Goodwill, taking road trips with his wife, and watching WLJC nightly. Owen was a simple good-natured man who never met a stranger. He possessed a quick-witted sense of humor and was known to be a jokester.

Owen loved and was loved beyond measure by his family and friends. He will be remembered for his uncanny ability to bring a smile, and laughter to any situation. Although his absence will be felt for years to come by those who knew and loved him, the precious memories of Owen will be carried in their hearts to ponder on during those times that his absence is felt the strongest.

 Visitation at the Michael R Gray Funeral Home in Owingsville will be held on Thursday, May 2 from 11:00 to 1:00 followed by the Funeral Service at 1:00 PM with Pastors Steve Meadows, Ulysses Walton, and Dr. Sean Bailey. Burial will follow at the Hedricks Cemetery with full military honors performed by American Legion Post 22.

Active Pallbearers include Adam Crockett, Russ Robinson, Kevin Robinson, Barry Robinson, Russ Hatton, and Jerry Hatton.

Honorary Pallbearers include Eddie McIlvain, Blanche Purvis, Briley Richards, Kenny Hatton, and Tim Highley.
