Rube Blevins

Rube Blevins, 91, of Preston, Kentucky passed away Friday, March 17, 2023 at his home surrounded by his family. 

He was born in Bath County, Kentucky on November 30, 1931, to the late Frank Blevins and Jessie Ingram Blevins. 

Rube was a wise, thoughtful, soft-spoken person who treated everyone he encountered with dignity and respect.  He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. Rube and his beloved wife, Helen owned and operated the Blevins Grocery in Preston for over 50 years.  Their hospitality spread throughout the community and kept several families from going hungry.  Rube was a two time state champion horseshoe player and two time state runner up.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching UK basketball, playing softball in his younger years and spending time with his family.  Rube also received the highest title of honor, the Kentucky Colonel.  

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, one brother and several half brothers and sisters. 

Survivors include his beloved wife, Helen Ginter Blevins, two daughters, Rhonda York (Randy) and Jodie Ratliff (Mike) both of Preston, one granddaughter, Candice Kimsey (Scott) of Walton, Kentucky and three great-grandchildren, Abigail, Preston and Palmer Kimsey and several nieces and nephews. 

Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 PM Tuesday, March 21, 2023, in the chapel of the Michael R. Gray Funeral Home in Owingsville with Rev. Lowell Rice and Jeff Lopresto officiating. 

Burial and full military honors will follow at the Preston-Ginter Memorial Cemetery in Preston. 

Visitation at the Michael R. Gray Funeral Home in Owingsville will be from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM Tuesday. 

Pallbearers include Gerald Spratt, Gary Jackson, Tim Terry, Mike Cassidy, Dwayne Carpenter, Ricky Wells, Scott Kimsey and Samuel Schwartz. 

Honorary pallbearers include Randy York, Mike Ratliff, Bob DeArmond, Hoy Miller Jr., Mitchell Miller, Denny Shelley, Tuffy Snedegar and Scott Miller. 

The Michael R. Gray Funeral Home in Owingsville is caring for all the arrangements for Rube Blevins.
