Shirley Butcher

Shirley Butcher, 85, of Owingsville, passed away Friday, May 2, 2025, at her home. She was born on November 12, 1939, in Clark County to the late Hord Reed and Cynthia Peters Reed. Shirley lived a life full of dedication and warmth. She retired after 39 years of service at Osram Sylvania, where her work ethic and commitment earned her the respect of her colleagues and the admiration of those around her.

Shirley had a wide range of interests that brought joy to her life and those she shared them with. She was known for her passion for attending horse shows, a love of gardening that brightened her surroundings.  She was a member of the Owingsville Christian Church and a steadfast devotion to reading her Bible. An avid fan of UK basketball, she enjoyed cheering for her favorite team and would often share her enthusiasm with friends and family. Visits to the Dollar Tree were another delight for her, where small treasures could be found.

Shirley is predeceased by her husband, Gano Butcher, her stepdaughter, Susan Peyton, and her brother, Ralph Reed. Their memories remained close to her heart throughout her life, shaping the woman she became.

Survivors include her stepchildren, Gary Butcher (Patty) and Debbie Easterling, both of Owingsville, alongside seven grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren who filled her life with joy. She cherished her relationships with her special friends, Phyllis Conyers, Helen Staton, and Juanita Gorrell, who brought laughter and companionship to her days.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Owingsville Cemetery, located at 129 Cemetery St, Owingsville, KY 40360 with Pastors, Johnny Baber and Tim "Tinker" Ray and Rev. Lowell Rice officiating.
