Stewart Wayne Brashear, 73, passed away at his home on Thursday, June 5, 2025. Stewart was born on October 11, 1951, in Hazard, Kentucky to the late Blaine Brashear and Eva Pratt Brashear.
Stewart had a distinguished career as a Captain with the Lexington Fire Department, where he devoted many years to safeguarding his community. His dedication and bravery left an indelible mark on those he served alongside and those he protected.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Stewart found joy in hunting and fishing, relished the art of woodworking, nurtured his garden, and cherished time spent at Cave Run Lake. He most loved spending time with his family and those he called friends.
In addition to his parents, Stewart was preceded in death by two sisters, Marana Brashear and Carol Horne.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy Taylor Brashear, two daughters, Rhonda (Javi) of Texas and Brandi (Farid) of South Carolina, as well as one son, Blaine (Karina) of Maryland, five grandchildren: Matthew (Tai), Ethan (Gracie), Blaine Taylor, Brayden, and Bayleigh along with six step-grandchildren and one great-granddaughter, Nova.
He is also survived by two sisters, Doris Gray of Ohio and Marcella Eversole of North Carolina. Stewart held close friendships with special individuals, including Peggy Shields, James Brooks, Greg Brooks, Rodney "Freddie" Jackson, Neil Troyer, Clint Martin, and Matt Wyatt who shared in many of his adventures and stand as witnesses to the remarkable man he was.
The family will be having a Celebration of Life at a later time.
