Virginia Rose Smith

Virginia Rose Reid "Jenny" Smith, 86, of Bethel, Kentucky passed away Sunday, April 23, 2023 at the St. Joseph Hospital in Mt. Sterling, Kentucky. 

She was born on August 4, 1936 in Nicholas County, Kentucky to the late Farris Reid and Edith Whitton Reid. 

Jenny was a graduate of the Nicholas County High School and the Bluegrass Beauty School in Lexington, Kentucky.  She went on to work as a hairdresser for over 50 years and loved it dearly.  She was a member of the Bethel Methodist Church, Bath County Homemakers and Bath County Cattleman's Association.  She enjoyed reading, traveling, watching people while drinking her coffee and spending time with her family.  Her commitment to generously serving others, family or not, was an inspiration to everyone. 

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Hissel Smith of whom she was married to since January 1, 1960, her son in law, Wayne Watson, two grandchildren, Keith Watson and Rena Watson and her great aunt, Sylvia McQuithy. 

Survivors include her daughter, Jacky Watson, her grandson, Aaron Watson (Samantha) both of Bethel,  three great granddaughters, Ava Watson, MaKayla Stigall and Madison Stigall and two great grandsons, Oliver and Harrison Watson and several cousins and many friends. 

Funeral services will be conducted 1:30 PM Friday, April 28, 2023 in the chapel of the Michael R. Gray Funeral Home in Owingsville, Kentucky with Bro. Adam Sparks, Rev. Lowell Rice and Camille Gray officiating. 

Burial will follow at the Longview Cemetery in Bethel. 

Visitation at the Michael R. Gray Funeral Home in Owingsville will be from 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM Thursday. 

Contributions are suggested to the Bethel Methodist Church for new doors. 

Pallbearers include Larry Moore, Jim Bowling, Billy Hunt, Debbie Gulley, Loretta Ramey, Wanda Mathis, Chris Cook, Daron Razor, Junior Bradley and Mark Allison. 

Honorary Pallbearers include Alta Razor, Peggy Calvert, JoAnn Cook, Walter Hawkins, Irene and Hershal Thornsburg, Belva Woodard, Connie McFarland, Paul Marshall, Donald Dailey and Doug Manley. 

The Michael R. Gray Funeral Home in Owingsville is caring for all the arrangements for Virginia "Jenny" Smith.
