William Ronald "Ronnie" Gudgell, born on November 16, 1946, in Lexington, Kentucky, passed away peacefully at his residence on April 15, 2026. Ronnie was a beloved member of his community whose life was marked by devotion to family, faith, and service.
Ronnie and Patsy have been residents of Mt. Sterling the last several years but were formerly of Owingsville.
A proud 1965 graduate of Bath County High School, Ronnie embarked on a career dedicated to the enhancement of Kentucky’s infrastructure. He retired after 32 years of commendable service with the Kentucky Department of Transportation in Flemingsburg. As a maintenance engineer, he responsibly presided over multiple counties, demonstrating unwavering commitment, humility, and a sharp mind that handled his duties with exceptional reliability and quick wit.
Beyond his professional achievements, Ronnie was known for his loyalty, respectfulness, and willingness to aid others—a reflection of his deep love for his church and church family. His generous spirit and readiness to help were pillars of his character, enriching the lives of those who knew him.
Ronnie’s personal interests reflected his zest for life. He was an avid sports fan, particularly passionate about the Cincinnati Reds and the University of Kentucky teams. He found joy in the simple pleasures of playing rook with friends, engaging in deer and turkey hunting, wood working, and exploring yard sales with Patsy, with whom he enjoyed spending cherished moments. Above all, his heart was anchored in his family, around whom he built a life of warmth and affection.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William A. and Ella "Polly" Everman Gudgell and one brother, Gary Gudgell.
Survivors include his devoted wife of over 62 years, Patsy Manley Gudgell. Three daughters, Lisa Stewart (Jessie) of Salt Lick, Kentucky. Angie Lockhart (Ronnie Martin) of Mt. Sterling and Amy Lewis (Chris) of Charleston, South Carolina. Grandchildren: Ty Stewart (Brooke) Salt Lick, Macie Spence of Mt. Sterling, Hannah Pitts (Tyson) of Mt. Sterling, Braxton Lewis (Kaley) Fort Stewart, Georgia. Great-Grandchildren: Everly Pitts, Lettie Pitts, Jack Pitts, Sutton Stewart, Elliott Lewis, Ronnie Belle Lewis, Gigi Lewis.
Memorial services will be conducted 1:00 P.M. Monday, April 20, 2026, in the chapel of the Michael R. Gray Funeral Home in Owingsville with Brother Dan Murphy and Brother Jerry Carmichael officiating.
Visitation at the Michael R. Gray Funeral Home in Owingsville is after 11:00 A.M. Monday.
He will be remembered fondly for his authenticity and the steady presence he provided to all who had the privilege of knowing him. William Ronald "Ronnie" Gudgell leaves behind a legacy defined by hard work, faith, and a genuine care for others—a legacy that will endure in the hearts of those touched by his life.
