William Robert Purvis, affectionately known to many as "Bobby," 73, of Owingsville, Kentucky, passed away at his home on Sunday, May 17, 2026. He was born on November 25, 1952, in Sharpsburg, Kentucky, to the late Emmitt Purvis and Emma Gean Cook Purvis. He lived a life marked by dedication to his craft, his passions, and most dearly, his family.
Bobby was a respected Commercial Window Cleaner, a profession through which he demonstrated unwavering commitment and professionalism. Beyond his vocation, he was a man of many interests, especially anything to do with cars. His enthusiasm for attending car shows and drag racing events brought him great joy. Yet above all these pursuits, William cherished his family with profound love and devotion.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Teresa Hardin Purvis, their enduring partnership was a testament to their deep bond. He also leaves behind one son, Michael Anthony Purvis of Carlisle, Kentucky; three grandchildren, Dylan Purvis, Jayden Purvis, and Megan Kinder (Logan); and one great-grandchild, Dutton Kinder. His family circle is further extended by four sisters: Pansy Peel (Carl Lee) of Lexington, Kentucky; Rosie Brasington (Robert) of Harrodsburg, Kentucky; Darlene Holder (Billy) of Sharpsburg; and Lisa Baker of Owingsville. A host of nieces and nephews also cherish his memory.
William was preceded in death by his son, Nathan Daniel Purvis; three sisters, Peggy Smith, Virginia Lane, and Bonnie Gail Reece; and three brothers, Ivan Morton “Tommy” Purvis, Emmitt Morton Purvis, and John Wayne Purvis.
The visitation to honor William’s life will take place on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the Michael R Gray Funeral Home, located at 89 Slate Avenue in Owingsville, Kentucky. The funeral service will follow the next day, on Thursday, May 21, at 1:00 p.m. at the same location. Burial will take place at Hedricks Cemetery in Salt Lick, Kentucky.
Pallbearers include Hunter Davis, Doug Brooks, little John Purvis, David Lee Peel, Jamie Pergrem and Jerrett Leach.
Honorary pallbearers include Gary Craig and Buck Peel.
