Winona Nichols

Nichols, Winona Y., age 76, passed away Saturday, May 10, 2014 at Mt. Pleasant Retirement Village with her children by her side. She was born November 25, 1937 to Jesse and Mildred (Carpenter) Byrd in Bath County, KY. She worked for Armco Steel Inc. for 24 years, retiring in 1992 as the Supervisor of Benefits. She was devoted to her family and loved spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of Cross Point Church of Christ and was very involved with church activities and giving to others. Winona is survived by her husband of 58 years, Douglas R. Nichols; children, Michael D. Nichols of Canandaigua, NY, George W. (Sharon) Nichols of Germantown, OH and Lori (Alfred) Mothershed of Leicester, NY; grandchildren, Micheal Cheffer, Nathan (Melissa) Cole, Winona Clay Nichols, Dixie Mae Nichols and great-grandson, Evan Cheffer. She is preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Merle Levi Byrd. The visitation will be on Wednesday, May 14, 2014 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at Richie Hunt Funeral Home in Owingsville, KY. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 15, 2014 at 11:00 AM at the funeral home with Rev. Lowell Rice, officiating. Interment will follow at Kendall Springs Cemetery.
